This “About Me” page has been “under construction” for quite a while. I think it’s time to remedy that.
I suppose I’ve left it blank for so long because I wasn’t completely sure what about me I should mention, or what I should even mention about the purpose of this blog. And the customary “Welcome to my corner of the Internet” just doesn’t seem to fit me…so…
Hi! I’m Michelle. And I write. The end.
No – I’m just kidding! I’m seriously bad at this kind of stuff. But I’ll give a serious whirl. Here goes:
For as long as I can remember, I’ve kept a journal. Writing helps me organize my thoughts and express my feelings. When I was in seminary, blogging was a new phenomenon, and I instantly loved it. I used blogging to help me sort out all the information that was being dumped into my brain. Since then, blogging has exploded, and anyone and everyone has or can have one. I’ve questioned more than once if I need a blog anymore. What do I have to say that all these others folks haven’t said already? And honestly: Do I have anything compelling to say in the first place?
I am often compelled to say something, which is quite different from saying something compelling.
I try to make the distinction and keep my mouth shut in those appropriate places. Sometimes I miss that mark. But I am always willing to admit when I do.
I’ve tried to nail down a specific topic and focus on that, but to no avail. I’m all over the place most days! So what exactly do I write about/think about? Well, let me tell you!
I love photography. Most of the photos you will see on this blog are my own, unless otherwise noted. The sky is my favorite photography subject, sunsets in particular.
I am a weather geek. This past year I trained to be a storm spotter. I may have an occasional weather geek-out.
I love to read. I’m a non-fiction reader. Mostly theology books. History is another favorite subject of mine. I get excited when I get new theology books comes in the mail. Yes, I know, that’s not normal. 😉
I love to talk about what I’m reading about. That is a lot of where my writing comes from. I don’t feel the task of processing information is complete until I’ve written about it.
My two favorite subjects to talk about are religion and politics. Just to forewarn you.
I am currently on a weight loss journey. You may hear a tidbit or two about that every now and then.
My favorite color is purple. I’ve never had occasion to talk about my fondness for the color purple, but there’s a first time for everything, right?
The most important thing about me though is this: I am a child of God. I love Jesus. I believe the Bible is true. And I want to share that love and that truth with others.
The tagline for this blog is “Thoughts for the Journey on the Road to Shalom”. Shalom is the Hebrew word for peace. But it means so much more than our English word might imply. The word comes from a root word that means wholeness, or completeness. We are all searching for wholeness. We all want to feel complete. That can only be found through faith in Jesus Christ. We are complete in Him.
Our world is fragmented. We are broken, our systems are broken, and the earth is broken. Jesus puts the pieces back together. And one day He will return to make all things new. Right now, we walk out our faith day by day, as we get closer to that point where that faith will become sight. It is a process, a journey. And it rarely if ever goes in a straight line. He is the way, the One we are to follow through that process. As I take this journey, I sometimes feel the need to stop and reflect, gather my thoughts. That is what this blog represents.
